Challenge
Ramila Peiris, Head of Data Science at Sanofi, a biopharmaceutical manufacturing company, says the company has three business areas it focuses on: vaccines, specialty care and rare diseases. He discusses these areas and applying data science to harness value to ensure product quality so that products are provided to patients at the right time.
Speed is very important for us because if you don’t solve problems in a timely manner that could affect the supply and eventually our market share. So, that’s an area we heavily focus on, and we make sure that we provide analytics solutions fast. When you talk about speed, this topic about generative AI is going to help us. The second challenging area is really how to manage knowledge within the organization.
Solution
We are still in the exploratory stage to be honest, but I’ve been thinking about a few options like I mentioned how to manage knowledge. Just to give you a tangible example, when you analyze data, speed is important, but at the same time, we want to make sure what we see with analytics has value in the shop flow, right? So, how do we bring this business knowledge, business understanding to our analytics?
I believe generative AI can provide that leverage for us. When we analyze, we can also match with the analytics or verify what we find with our analytics with the existing knowledge that may present in documentations or videos or interviews with experts, so that’s another one area that we are exploring.
